Carol Duque exemplifies the spirit of Corpus Christi through her unwavering generosity, artistic talent, and deep-rooted commitment to her community. Born and raised in South Texas, Carol’s love for quilting blossomed into a lifelong passion, one that has touched countless lives and organizations. She gives back wholeheartedly, offering complimentary longarm quilting services to charitable organizations. The quilts she donates become cherished fundraising items or gifts of comfort, distributed as each organization sees fit.
Building Community Through Quilting
Carol’s journey in the quilting world began when she joined the Coastal Bend Quilt and Needlework Guild in 2012. She discovered that the common thread of quilting not only created beautiful works of art, but also wove friendships among guild members. Her enthusiasm led her to volunteer as a quilt show scribe and to help set up ticket booths for the Opportunity Quilt, raising funds for scholarship recipients. Carol encourages her customers to enter their quilts in area shows, instilling pride in their creations and helping them share their stories with the wider quilting community. Her role extends to welcoming guild members with her signature hospitality and smile, as well as maintaining monthly attendance records, further strengthening the sense of belonging in the group.
Engagement Beyond the Guild
Beyond the guild, Carol is an active member of multiple quilting circles, including the Island Strippers, Sew-Ciety, Three Rivers CAT/NAP, several private bees, and various online groups. She firmly believes in the power of joy, famously saying, “If you do anything for joy, you can do it forever.” This philosophy guides not only her craft but every interaction she has within the community.
A Lasting Legacy
Carol’s story is one of kindness, creativity, and heartfelt dedication. Her legacy reminds us that when you love what you do, your passion radiates throughout your community, leaving a lasting impact for generations to come.
